Funny how little folks know history... income tax is 100 years this year. And it's there b/c ppl clamored for it. Thank your grand and greatgrandfathers for that tax burden.

McDonnell has flip-flopped before on abortion rights and redistricting - watch him do it again when he realizes that he will be cutting a major state revenue source.

They were just talking about raising them for the poor, i.e. per mile tax. That means that a person who has a 30 mpg aveo pays same tax as someone driving a 2 mpg motor home!

Dear Jkpsr... raising taxes is the answer... REALLY! That will further REPRESS the economy. Taxing more kills the golden goose, remember that story... I'm sure you do! Please don't take my comments wrong. I respect your opinion, it just doesn't make sense with the information, I've provided.
JFK lowered the taxes levied by the IRS from 70% to something like 35%. You know what happened, IRS revenue, INCREASED!!! Why... because people were able to INVEST and reap a greater HARVEST! You should, if ANYTHING... LOWER the TAX to help people drive MORE... more fuel burned... more TAX dollars, which is what it is all about. Promote growth, through tax cuts, not raises. Come man!

Government wants all the money it can extract from the tax-payer. Its fine if government also fixed its spending, which would include salaries, raises, perks, all the specials alloewd legislators, etc, etc... All governmeny likes to spend what it does not have. legislators, unlike most regular taxpayers, usually do not look to really cut down on their personal spending (naturally, they are taxpayer supported.

jrsva.... The poor have to buy gas to get to work... they buy their share and get taxed apportionately.
Tax the ELITISITs Electric vehicles who are not paying their share of fuel tax. Shoot just call it a transportation tax. Base it on miles driven, that's fair, just tax gas burners, different from non-petrol related fueled vehicles.
I agree DRAGNET is being disrespectful... but he is not BASHING, it's just a nick name he's given him. I use "BO"... like some have used "W", is that disrespectful...
Now your comment about "The President" winning by a "considerable margin" is QUITE LAUGHABLE! It was one of the more NARROW MARGINS. His re-election could NEVER be considered, A MANDATE. Please spare us that rhetoric! You mention, TRASH Talk... Well I agree, it's immature, disrespectful, etc... So why do the Liberals... continue to BASH Bush like a Pinjata? The current president has made more EXECUTIVE orders than the Last 10 presidents "Combined". Who says, he won't mandate he stay longer, now that would be something "wouldn't it"?
His tax and spending policies border on the criminal. I will stop here, as I am getting off topic.

Pro Liberals OBJECT... oh, they got their hand caught in the cookie jar and now they don't want it SPANKED!
Get real... you have to get it somewhere. Ya know... if they lowered the tax, like Kennedy did with the IRS tax when he came into office it MIGHT spur more driving! Oh, wow! Additional revenue!
They should tax non gasoline using vehicles to balance this equation!

“not if Obummer can help it.”
Come on Dragnet, give it a rest. President Barack Obama won re-election by a significant margin. He is your president as well as mine and will be for the next 4 years. It is well past time to stop the childish, disparaging word games with his name and pay respect to the Office of the President, even if you do not like its current occupant. The time will come when someone you approve of will hold this office, at which time you will not appreciate this sort of trash talk.

Virginia is generally a conservative state so it feels odd to be living with such a new-age proposal under consideration. My first impression is that the higher sales tax will add to the burden of the poor, most of whom buy very little, if any, gasoline.
