We'll have to see what the requirements are for LNG tankers in the expanded canal. In US ports, LNG tankers have special rules for movements to minimize collision risks with other vessels.

if the methane gas producers want a wider canal...
I say.. "Let them go ahead and build it"....
no tax money, no subsidy, and please conform to all environmental and safety and construction standards..
now get on it...

Ok, let Panama pay for it. If we pay for it, then we take back ownership of the canal.

This is a good thing... isn't it? We NEED to export to china... simply to help balance trade... since we import SOOO MUCH STUFF from China already!

Wait a minute.....isn't the Panama Canal controlled by the Chinese? Gotta be since all those projected exports going through the canal are bound for the Far East.

If the Gov. tries real hard they can probably authorize open market on exportiNG NG & the companies can maybe sell out that 100+ year supply of NG in the USA, within 25-30 yrs. by exportiNG overseas.

The demands of vast products to support the increasingly overpopulation of China and other Asian countries will tremendously cause negative impact on the American people. While export sales will bring in money their consumption will cause shortages worldwide. Commodities of all types, fuel, construction resources like steel & concrete, food and other ag products. Shortages are have already been impacting the American people.

As the plot thickens, or as Paul would say, now for the rest of the story.
""The report said the bigger canal mainly will allow for more exports to Asia, includiNG natural gas as soon as companies get government permits to liquefy the gas for export in special tankers""
So they can sell off all the USA reserves while raisiNG the price of NG to everyone in the USA. YEA GREAT IDEA WASHINGTON, APPROVE IT. NOT!

The article didn't say who is funding the expansion of the Panama Canal? I hope it is not my tax dollars unless we are getting interest on the money.

All businesses will look to sell their products to the highest paying customer, so this is no surprise. If anyone of us owned a business that couldn't make a profit close to home, we would look to sell our products to customers no matter where they are that are willing to pay a price that will make our business profit. Americans can not afford to pay more for natural gas or gasoline due to the high unemployment and catastrophically damaged economy. So off to the ship yards with it to sell to those who will pay more.

Once the exporting starts the home price will increase & supply & demand will be affected. Just look at the recent price increase based on possible increased demand.

Making the Panama Canal wider is a good thing. When the Panama Canal is widend it looks like we will be ready. But why are we sending taxpayers money to Panama? The U.S. gave the canal to Panama.

In a free market goods are sold to the highest bidder. Those of you that want to force the oil companies oil companies to sell their product here are wanting to socialize the industry.

Wally52 - We keep the vast majority of oil, gas, and petroleum products here. We have the capability to produce far more NG than we can use - in fact, much of the gas in the Bakken play is flared off because there's no market for it.
