Nissan may produce its Murano in Smyrna

Tennessean -- More jobs could be on the way for Nissan’s Smyrna plant, which already has seen a boom in hiring this year.

Although the automaker won’t confirm it, the top business newspaper in Japan says production of the Murano midsize crossover utility vehicle will move to Nissan’s Middle Tennessee assembly plant in 2014.

It would be another in a long series of production moves to North America for Nissan and other Japanese automakers, which are struggling to deal with the low value of the U.S. dollar versus the Japanese yen.

About 1,000 more workers are expected to be added at Smyrna this fall and winter to accommodate production of the Leaf electric car and Rogue compact crossover, both of which are moving from Japan.

A big mismatch in the currency exchange rate is costly to Nissan when selling

What a turnaround. Are a few of you old enough to remember when jobs were outsourced to Japan because it was cheaper to make things there? that was in the early 1950's.
Then "outsourcing" really became popular. plants were built in Taiwan, then Mexico, and several other countries, until the wages there got too "high", then jobs were moved to communist china. Look at the shirt on your back, the coffe-pot in your kitchen, and a lot of the food next time you go to a grocery store.
Now the Japanese and the Germans are "outsourcing" their manufacturing to where the wages are lower!

Nissan may produce its Murano in Smyrna, at Nissan's Middle Tennessee assembly plant in 2014. It takes private industry to create jobs for the US? more than what Chuck can do, Much More!
'Coming out of the closet' Chucky's lousy, smoke and mirrors, lack of jobs, dog and pony show and in the crapper economy, the jobs are Not here. Chucky's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population and the job numbers continue to be down – no matter how smoooooth talking Chucky spins those numbers and he can spin them very well! People will still drive and buy fuel no matter what but it sure helps to have a job too!
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

A down economy with a weak dollar has ways to correct itself and Nissan's planned movement of the Murano's production to Tennessee is an example.

I like "made in America". Toyota and Honda make their vehicles in America as well. Far better than GM and Chrysler

Humancry, “sowhat [sic]”
Mstearno, “[W]ho cares[?]”

My, what mean-spirited, thoughtless comments. Thousands of people who will get a job (or a better job) and their families and many others in the region who will benefit from this, that’s who cares. And all of these new jobs will help the economy of the whole country, that’s what. Sheesh, get a life folks.

“I guess this is good news, except the profits goes [sic] to Japan.”

Most of the high-paying executive jobs are in Japan but the profits go to the shareholders and they are all over the world, many in the USA. Having the factory jobs here is good for the US.

It's a step in the right direction. But, the Big Three need to stop building cars overseas that are intended for the U.S. market.

Makes sense to eliminate the transportation of vehicles from Japan. Also, it is interesting to note that Japanese branded vehicles made in the US generally have more US made parts than American branded vehicles.
