Virginia DOT launches investment plan for highway funding

GasBuddy Blog -- At his annual transportation conference last week, Governor Bob McDonnell discussed the bipartisan progress being made in addressing Virginia's transportation issues; and, he announced he was working on a significant transportation funding package for the upcoming General Assembly session that will eliminate the need to transfer road construction funds to maintenance by 2019, and put at least $500 million a year in new transportation funding into roads, bridges, transit and passenger rail.

"Driving around the state, you can now see hundreds of projects underway to get people and freight in Virginia moving again," McDonnell said. "Many of these projects are being funded by our 2011 Transportation Funding Package, which set the framework...

Solyndra was half a $Billion alone. Think of all the roads and bridges that could have been repaired.

Federal and State fuel taxes are for the repair or replacement of roads and bridges, Not for anything else. As more and more roads are built, people move farther away from the city or the place of work, eventually there is heavy traffic and congestion on the major streets and highways. The more roads, improved freeways or toll roads – it will be just as slow and congested as before. No matter how much you improve the traffic flow, it always ends up the same as before. More people movers, mass transit or light rail are needed to move the population back and forth from work or other travel. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, vehicle manufactures Produce and the population ‘Drives’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!
