stealth: neither DUI nor TWD (texting while driving) will be stopped by laws. You're very right about that.

If these laws don't bring in additional revenue from fines and surcharges, the states are not interested!...

How about looking at those statistics to see how many of the traffic fatalities include factors such as drunk drivers since all the safety laws in the world won't control most of those incidents?

We measure success by the number of laws they pass. Sad, truly sad!

If the states were to enact adequate traffic safety laws, they would violate the constitutional rights of the stupid and the dangerous drivers to menace others who venture out onto the streets, roads, highways, and interstates.

Laws do not make anything safer!! Stupid democrats think that government can do anything, but personal responsibility is the real source of everything.

Can't blame the states too much. People don't like to be told what to do.

Old article plus my view is # of new laws /yr doesn't need to increase yr after yr to be safe!!! In fact if the laws on the books were good, it should decrease yr after yr but still be safer ie. one good encompassing cell-phone law should cover that subject ie. don't use one while actively driving period. I can also see updates to laws as time changes....like seatbelts, child seats etc but the base remains intact.

A lot of state legislatures are part-time and don't have the time in their brief sessions to take up every piece of legislation that various advocacy groups would like to see enacted. Probably a good thing.

Are we adding laws just to add, or are these actually going to protect people. Not sure from my end... A waste of time and money.

There are enough laws on the books now. If they would just enforce them nobody would be complaining. We don't need laws banning cell phones and texting. There are traffic laws already for failure to pay proper attention, reckless driving, failure to maintain proper control, etc. that would work just fine. Stop passing more laws.

its not the number of laws but the intent of drivers that make for safe roads.
