Pennsylvania Governor's 'Transportation Plan' relies on steep tax hikes

GasBuddy Blog -- PA Governor Tom Corbett introduced a plan last week that proposes raising gas tax revenues over the next five years to generate more than $5 billion that he says would be well-spent on roads, bridges and mass-transit systems.

The only problem with the plan is that it's short on details.

"How do we (Pennsylvania's taxpayers) finance the plan?" The governor's report answered that question with four sentences (three bullet points!).

"How will the dollars be spent?" The answer to that question got five bullet points.

The reporter mentions near the end of his article that the politicos "have no idea how the tax hike would affect gas prices; and, how much of that increase will be passed along to consumers." Knowing the oil companies, I think it is obvious that the entire increase would be passed on to consumers.

Like anyone should believe a politician from the same state who brought us the 9 judges indicted for fixing traffic tickets...should probably ask a lot more questions before agreeing to yet ANOTHER tax hike!

PA is a state, like VA, where expenditures are heavily leaning on revenues.

Civic: you're right. That's b/c the taxpayer really has no voice. Our so called elected officials don't care what we really want, once they have been elected to office.

New story please.

And for all you who don't want taxes - please drive on your own potholes. Governments have been dodging maintenance for years. And sometimes the maintenance reaches the point where it calls for a new road.

Heavily tax the moped drivers. They buy no driver's license (tax) no insurance (tax) no license plate (tax) no safety inspection (tax) plus they slow down traffic (waste of gas) and cause traffic accidents.

They plan to raise oil taxes from $1,250,000,000 to $1,800,000,000.

Gee, who ends up paying for that?

There is a plus to Corbett's plan Pennsylvania will finally have some of the best roads, there will be little or no maintenance this will be due to the fact most of the people in Pennsylvania will not be able to afford to use them with the $.28 increase in gasoline
